Lent

Every year I try to think of something good to give up for Lent.  I'm not the best Catholic in the world, but I try where I can.  One year I gave up meat.  Which, gave me a new found respect for vegetarians.  Not easy to find options for a meat free lunch, especially when I am not the biggest fan of fish.  Very limiting.

I think this year I'm going to give up soda.  That's lame.  Not sure Jesus would think that's a big sacrifice.  I should give up candy (gasp!) maybe I will.  I haven't had any yet today!  Now that would be a big sacrifice, as I love candy!  Sometimes I think I'd rather eat sweets than regular food.

In other boring Jenn-ness, I did receive an email from the MS Society about the 2012 NYC triathlon.  That means it is getting closer.  OK, it is 4 1/2 months away, but still, getting closer!  I have to raise $893 more dollars.  I hope I can do it!  But I do have some time.  I have to get creative with my fundraising goals!

In other news, I have been back to the gym & I am getting into a better groove.  Thank God!  Oops, I probably shouldn't say that on the first day of lent.  Ha ha.

  1. Thanks for talking about Lent! In addition to being a new fan of your blog, I am also a Catholic. It's nice to see other Catholics talking about our faith. Like you, I'm not the best Catholic either. I'm just a sinner that loves Christ and the Church that He founded. I keep trying.

This Lent I am going to try to spend less time on the computer. (Jenn's Triathlon Blog gets special dispensation.) :) I need to spend more time reading Sacred Scripture and less time watching ESPN.

In addition to giving up some of the things that I enjoy, I am also going to do something for someone that is suffering. For years now, Matthew 25:31-46 has been one of my favorite parts of the Bible. It's time I start actually doing things instead of just believing things. Lent seems like a good time to start.

I have a childhood friend who is serving a long sentence in one of New Jersey's prisons. I've never visited someone in prison before. Christ said that when we visit those who are in prison, we visit Him. I need to go to prison -- for a few hours, that is. That doesn't make me Mother Teresa, mind you, but it is more than I usually do during Lent. Like I said, I'm just a sinner that keeps trying.

Thanks for letting me ramble, Jenn. God bless.
