Sick!

So much has been going on lately.  I haven't really thought about anything good to write in my blog, so I haven't blogged in a few weeks.  Sorry five faithful followers.  I have been sick with bronchitis for the past 2 weeks.  Ugh, that's a long time.  I am actually starting to feel better.  Today was the first day I did not have to take any cough medicine, go me!  & let me tell you, I am pretty much immune to Nyquil & Robitussin.  Neither even make me drowsy any longer.  Not good.  I am thinking about switching to Mucinex, based solely on their disgusting phlegm monster commercials.

Anyhoo......so since I have been since I haven't had any time to workout.  Well, I've had lots of time, but no energy.  Most nights have been spent in bed, trying to rest.  So to sum up the past few weeks my 49ers sadly lost to the Giants & I now have to wear some 1986 Lawrence Taylor jersey to work (thanks Jimmy!) & paint my face some god awful blue & red (FDNY Mike).  I think I am going to opt for a face tattoo instead.  I am not a face painter thank you very much!

In other news I started my first day of volunteering (bronchitis & all - sorry tourists) at the WTC memorial.  It was a great experience.  It was very cold, but not too windy, which is good I was told, because one day last week it was so cold they had to shut off the water to one of the waterfalls because the wind was blowing the water out onto the plaza & making it very icy.  Not good, or safe!  Overall, despite the cold, it was a good day.  I even managed to be on time for both Path trains.  No waiting around.  & no being late for my first shift.  I thought I would be sad, but I wasn't.  I was happy to be there.  Another volunteer asked why I decided to become a volunteer so I told her.  It was my way of giving back to Jerry.  & I felt very close to him all day when I was there.  I'm sure he's looking down & getting a good laugh at my expense at me in my blue hat & volunteer vest - freezing my butt off, but it worth it.

There are all types of people there.  Many, were tourists & some had questions.  They asked about the buildings, the survivor tree (I even met the arborist!) & for me to take their pictures.  I never thought I'd ask someone to take my picture at the WTC memorial, but I get why they do it.  I took pictures when I went there, but only of the site, and of names of people that I knew.  I guess it was like when I visited the Vietnam Memorial in 8th grade.  We all pencil rubbed names of soldiers onto wax paper, but none of us really knew what we were doing, or any of the people whose names were inscribed in the wall.  One of the other things I noticed was the change in the waterfall.  Now I don't mean change, as in it looked different, I mean monetary change.  People have taken to throwing change into the waterfall.  We were asked to discourage people from doing so, but I can see why they do it.  Apparently, it is a custom to throw change into fountains in Europe & many tourists do this as a sign of respect.  Honestly, it reminded me of being at the Short Hills Mall & trying to get a quarter into the big water globe, so I don't think I would ever throw change into the memorial.  I guess it is too personal to me.  But, the one positive side of this is that I am sure that the memorial keeps the change & it goes towards upkeep & helps to always keep the cost of viewing the memorial free.  But still, it was not something I liked to see.

I'm hoping this weekend will bring less coughing & more working out.  I am trying to nail down a good schedule.  It must be getting closer to summer, as I just noticed the Spring Lake 5 email reminding me to sign up!
