New Name

I looked at my blog title this weekend.  Last year, it seemed like a good title, but it's boring.  I'm not always great at coming up with something new.  Perhaps I will ask my Facebook friends for a new title.  I mean, after I complete this 70.3, I'm going to have to change the title.  Hmmmm........I never really thought about this until the other day.

This weekend I also started to think, what am I going to do after I complete this half Ironman?  I mean, I should have a new goal, right?  Yes, there is always Alcatraz, but what do I do after that?  I can't really see myself running a marathon.  I know that my body is just not capable of handling that many miles.  After the 10 mile run, I knew that my knee & my feet could barely withstand more miles.  A marathon would require tons of training & maybe new joints & stuff like that.

This is really a hard decision for me.  Since I started doing all this crazy working out 2 years ago, I had ideas of what I would like to do, complete a triathlon, run a bunch of races & work up to a 1/2 marathon.  OK, so I did the 10 mile run instead of a 1/2 marathon, but I don't feel like I'm losing anything by shorting myself 3.1 miles.  Maybe I am, but who knows?

I recently started taking yoga.  I do like it, but I don't think there's some big yoga championship I can enter, especially since I can barely keep my leg on my thigh during sweaty tree pose.  I'm going to have to consult with some of my more savvy workout friends & see what they say.

I guess I still really need to focus on New Hampshire & then getting into the Alcatraz lottery, or whatever crazy registration process they have.  I can focus on my goals for 2011 in 2011.  No need to wish my life away just yet!

Lost Keys

Did you ever get that panicked feeling when you know that you have lost something?  How about you know where you left something & you desperately hope that it's still in the same place when you finally go to look for it again?  Well, that happened to me today.

This morning I planned my usual morning Spring Lake run.  I knew that I had consumed about 50,000 calories of BBQ fun yesterday (thanks Carolyn) so I had to put in some extra miles today.  I knew I'd be a little tired, yesterday Sue & I participated in the Tour de Cure Diabetes ride, which is an entirely different escapade that I will blog about later this week, but I digress.....my legs were tired & I knew that running the entire 6 miles would be tough this morning, especially when it's 80 degrees & super muggy!

My normal route takes me South through Spring Lake down to Pier Beach.  When I'm feeling super strong I also run the stairs & do some pushups along the way.  Feeling pretty good at the end of my run to Pier Beach I stopped for a drink & made my way back towards the South pavilion, after a quick up & down the stairs I take off again for the 2nd half of my run, but wait!  Where.  Are.  My.  Car.  Keys!!!!!!!!

Holy crap!  I had stopped at the North pavilion bathroom to wash the sweat off my face.  I left them in the bathroom!  I do this all the time, but I always remember at the last minute to take them.  Not today.  A good 20 minutes later I'm standing in the South end of Spring Lake quietly cursing to myself wondering how long it's going to take me to get back to Red Bank without my car, which is parked almost 3 miles away in Belmar.  Not good.  I have never run back through Spring Lake faster than I did this morning, ok maybe another time when I was surprised by a late afternoon lightning storm, but that wasn't the entire length of the boardwalk!

When I get to the bathroom, I see no sign of my keys.  The beach badge checkers all tell me that there's a lost & found in the beach office - so that's my next stop.  Thankfully, some kind beach goer turned my keys in!  Phew!  It would have been a really long walk back to Red Bank.  I'm going to have to keep some extra keys at my grandmother's house.  I seem to be doing this more often than not lately.  At least a block walk to her house is better than 15 miles back to Red Bank.  What a day!

Happy Father's Day!

World Wide Knit In Public Day

Today is World Wide Knit in Public Day & I am going to try to get more accomplished on my dress.  Hoh, what a terrible time I have had with a straight knitting project.  I had to start over three times!  I can't even begin to explain why I was having so many problems, but it looks like I am off & running in the right direction now.  I have about 5" knit.  It's supposed to be a dress, so we all know that I haven't gotten much done.

I wish I had a picture.  The yarn is linen & let me tell you, it is not for the faint of heart.  I do love the way it knits, but I originally wanted to knit it on wooden needles, my personal fave, but metal won out in the end.  The yarn just didn't slip well on the wooden & I am now the proud owner of another pair of size 6 circular needles.

I do love the pattern & I really am hoping everyone is telling me the truth about how it will go quickly since there are so many decreases.  (Skeptical here).  I'm hoping to have this ready in 2 weeks (very very wishful thinking) so I have to get cracking on it this week & next if I am to have any chance of finishing it.

I wish I had a picture to share, perhaps I will take one tonight of all of us knitting in public.  We will be at the Dublin House in Red Bank if anyone would like to join us, knitters & non-knitters welcome.  Then off to yoga!

Synergy Hot Yoga

Running really takes a toll on my joints.  I have been putting off yoga for a long time now, even though I know that there are so many great benefits.  I can't explain why, but sometimes I find it a little boring.  OK, there I said it.  I think it's partly because I have exercises ADD.  Yes, I do self diagnose.  Ha ha.  I just like to be moving or doing something.  Being locked in an exercise room tends to make me a little claustrophobic at times.  But the other day my friend Dori convinced me to come with her again to yoga class.

I had been twice before & it is really cool workout experience.  Synergy Yoga in Fair Haven http://www.synergyhotyoga.com/ is really different than the other classes I have taken.  They pump the heat into the room (I think 105 degrees with 50% humidity) & it really helps loosen up the stiff muscles.  Well, at least I think it does!  & man do you really sweat up a storm!  I drank an entire liter of water when I was there & I am not a big water drinker.   It was a really great class & I am happy to say that I kept up the entire time.  I'm really going to make an effort to go on a regular basis.

I think that I'm going to go back this afternoon as well.  I ran this morning, but not my usual long Sunday morning run, it really looked a little stormy this morning & I was afraid that if I got too far that the skies would open up & I'd be 3 miles away from the car.  Not a big fan of running in a downpour.  But of course, when I got back to the car, the sun was shining again.  Typical.

So if you're up for it, check out the link to Synergy Yoga in Fair Haven.  I'm really going to try very hard to make it to a few classes.  I felt really good the other night after an hour class.  I'm going to see how I feel today!  Plus everyone I know that is a Yogi has nice long lean muscles & flat tummies!

Hope everyone likes the new blog background.  I know I keep changing it!  We'll see how long I like this one.  Have a great Sunday!

75 days

Holy crap!  Where has the time gone?  I remember there were at least 222 days last time I checked!  75 days is 2 & 2 weeks away until I pack it all up & head to New Hampshire for the Timberman 70.3.

My training has not been perfect & has not gone much to plan lately, but I have been getting better runs in, that is I have been able to run 5 or 6 miles for the most part without feeling fatigued and without much walking.  I know that I can do this, it's just that I'd like to be able to get this 1/2 Ironman finished without having to crawl across the finish line.

I'm going to try to throw some yoga into my workout schedule this week.  I think it will help me since I am really horrible about stretching.  I did about 30 seconds of stretching the other day after my 6 mile run.  Yeah, it was hardly worth it.

In 2 weeks I'm going to be competing in the Tour de Cure in Brielle for Diabetes.  Thanks to everyone that contributed towards my ride.  This year we are going to be doing the 63 mile ride.  Last year it took us about 3 hours to ride the 37 miles, maybe we can do it a little faster this year & get it in under 5.  Who knows?  But I will keep you posted!

Here ya go Julia!

OK, so I am excited that people actually read my blog.  & I was even more excited when I received a COMMENT!

I finally finished the baby sweater.  2 balls of yarn & it only took me a few days.  This, my friends, is a miracle.  It's almost as miraculous as me completing a 10 mile run.  No wait, finishing this was way more difficult because it required me to sit down & actually knit it!

My next project (besides a pair of mittens that I started knitting for my oh so patient friend Sue 2 years ago) is a dress that I must finish before the 3rd of July.  Have to have a fancy party outfit for the fireworks!

Knitting

Yes, I do other things besides workout.  & if anyone has been following....I haven't been the best worker outer lately.  Last night I joined my friends for some much needed girl time & wine!  I went to the Wooly www.woolymonmouth.com to finish a baby sweater for a friend at work.  He just had a baby girl on last week.  Yay!  Girls are the best.

Sadly, in my wine induced knitting haze, I knit 1 sleeve, perfectly I may add - but realized that the other one was incorrect.  Not paying attention, I rip out what I think is the ill knitted sleeve.  Yeah......not the case.  As I look down at the yarn on the table & my lap - I see the poorly knitted sleeve staring back at me from the other pile of yarn on the other side of the table.  Crap!  Now I have to start both sleeves all over.  Oh well.  At least it was for a newborn & not for myself.  I might have strung myself up if that was the case.

Hopefully I will get the rest of the sweater finished before the weekend.  I'd like to present it to the proud papa next week!  Here it is in case you were wondering.  It's finished, but requires a bit more assembly.
